Monday, 11 October 2021 (YJC)_ A senior French military commander said tensions in the region had dropped significantly over the past two years.
Gen. Jacques Willard, commander of French forces in the Indian Ocean and UAE-based forces, said the region remained unstable, noting that tensions in the region had eased over the past two years.
In an interview with the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai, he said:
There are no provocations in the region and the sense of threat has greatly diminished, but the region remains unstable, and if all parties involved with the JCPOA work to reach a nuclear deal with Iran, tensions around the world will be reduced.
General Willard also clarified the reasons for the reduction of tensions in the region:
The presence of joint European forces, which are involved in patrolling the region with the participation of all parties, as well as the existence of diplomatic channels have been effective in reducing tensions.
