Monday, 11 October 2021 (YJC)_ A Taliban official says they are in talks with Russia to recognize Afghanistan's new government.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban's deputy minister of culture in Afghanistan, told Tass on Monday that the Taliban hoped Russia would help rebuild Afghanistan, which has suffered so much in recent decades.
Mujahid emphasized:
We seek cooperation with all countries, and foreign investment will play an important role in this regard. Russia is an economically important country. Afghanistan was devastated during the war and Russia and other countries can help rebuild it.
The Deputy Minister of Culture of the Taliban added that Kabul seeks to establish relations with all countries. First of all, we are talking about diplomatic relations, without which further cooperation is impossible. We are negotiating with Russia, mainly for the recognition of our government and the opening of embassies of the two countries in the capitals. Resolving these issues will pave the way for further cooperation.
A recent Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said Moscow, like the rest of the world, was closely monitoring the Taliban in Afghanistan and evaluating their promises.
