Saturday, 9 October 2021 (YJC)_ The Iranian parliamentary delegation and head of the Italian Parliament's Committee on Environment called for boosting bilateral environmental cooperation.
Last night, An Iranian parliamentary delegation traveled to the Italian capital of Rome to attend a preliminary session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26).
Today (Saturday) a meeting between the Iranian parliamentary delegation and head of the Italian Parliament's Committee on Environment was held during which both sides called for boosting bilateral environmental cooperation.
The Italian official praised Iran's long-standing relationship with Italy while expressing satisfaction over her meeting with the Iranian parliamentary delegation.
She went on to say that “While taking these relations in to account, Iran and Italy must work more closely together to protect the environment.”
Finally, she said “I hope this meeting will be a turning point in joint environmental efforts.”
The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) is the foremost international conference on climate change. Leaders from across the globe will attend to it to advance climate action and to promote the implementation of the Paris Agreement, the world’s major legally-binding international treaty on climate change.
A critical opportunity is provided by COP26 in order to discuss the achievements since the Paris Agreement was signed in 2015 and to set concrete plans to reach the Paris Agreement targets.
The engagement of parliaments in annual COP meetings has long been supported by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) through the organization of parliamentary meetings.
A Pre-COP26 Parliamentary is organized by IPU on 8-9 October 2021 in Rome, Italy as part of a series of pre-COP26 events hosted by Italy.
