Saturday, 9 October 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN criticized the unilateral sanctions imposed by the US on developing countries.
During his remarks to address the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly which deals with global finance and economic matters Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi slammed the unilateral sanctions imposed by the US on developing countries.
“These sanctions have violated basic principles of human rights of people in developing countries,” he said while adding that “These kinds of illegal measures are crimes against humanity.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, he referred to Covid-19 pandemic and named it as a “wake‑up call for the whole world” which makes people aware of the fact that development, welfare and prosperity of all people are interdependent.
In a relevant remark on Thursday, Iran's ambassador and Permanent Representative at the UN Office in Geneva Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh said that US sanctions are hindering the aid to reach to Afghanistan.
Iranian envoy also noted that “Oppressive US sanctions has negative consequences that affect the capabilities of host countries to support Afghan refugees.”
He finally said “The unilateral US sanctions have seriously endangered a lot of the humanitarian efforts to meet the needs of Afghan refugees,” while calling on the United States to be part of the solution, not the problem.
