Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in a meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman:
We call for a broad, long-term, and lasting relationship with the United States to enhance economic cooperation and peace in the region.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations, Afghanistan and the situation in the region.
Qureshi emphasized:
Proper dialogue between the two countries is essential to the mutual interests of the United States and Pakistan, as well as the realization of regional goals.
Pakistani Foreign Minister reminded:
Pakistan and the United States share similar views and stressed the importance of a peaceful solution to the situation in Afghanistan.
He continued:
We hope that the interim government of the Taliban in Afghanistan, along with peace and stability, will work to improve the situation for all the people of Afghanistan.
According to Qureshi, an inclusive government in Afghanistan can be a reliable partner for the international community.
