Wednesday, 6 October 2021 (YJC)_ The United Nations has warned that 1 million Afghan children are at risk of death from severe malnutrition and need immediate attention.
The United Nations says 3 million children under the age of five in Afghanistan are expected to suffer from malnutrition and that at least one million children will be at serious risk of death if not addressed immediately.
The United Nations warned on Tuesday that severe food insecurity has affected 14 million Afghans and that the international community must provide promised assistance to Afghanistan to prevent the effects from deepening.
The warning follows a two-day visit to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Afghanistan, Herve Ludovic de Lise, and WFP Representative Mary Ellen McGrotty.
The Child Protection Fund has said that the international community should allocate the money it has previously promised to international organizations to reduce the effects of malnutrition in Afghanistan.
De Lise added:
As more families try to provide food, the nutritional health of mothers and their children is deteriorating day by day.
