Friday,1 October 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian Foreign Minister urged South Korea to swiftly provide Iran access to the funds that Seoul has been withholding from the country.
In a phone talk with his South Korean counterpart Chung Eui-yong, Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian urged South Korea to swiftly provide Iran access to the funds that Seoul has been withholding from the country.
Iranian Foreign minister voiced the country’s harsh criticism to the continued freezing of the Iranian funds at South Korea’s banks on the pretext of abiding by the US sanctions and said “the money should be released so Iran in a bid that we could use it towards buying medicine and other commodities.”
“We are seriously displeased with the situation which is the result of cessation of trade activities between the countries, and prevention of application of the funds even towards purchase of humanitarian items," Amir Abdollahian said.
For his part, China’s foreign minister announced that he was pursuing the issue of Iran’s access to the frozen funds while expressing concern regarding the actions that Tehran has been taking concerning the Korean imports.
