Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani appeared at a joint news conference with EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell this afternoon (Thursday).
According to Al-Jazeera, the Qatari foreign minister referred to Iran in a part of the conference dedicated to Afghanistan and said:
Qatar is part of the region and is trying to reduce tensions and advance nuclear talks with Iran.
Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed newspaper also covered another part of the Qatari official's remarks, quoting him:
We do not play a mediating role in the nuclear deal; but we encourage neighboring countries and partners to engage in dialogue.
Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani added: "We do not want a nuclear race in the region."
