The United Nations has announced that a representative of Ashraf Ghani's government from Afghanistan will address the UN Security Council.
Reuters reports that Ashraf Ghani's representative, Ghulam Mohammad Ishaqozi, will address a UN summit on Monday after consultations on Afghanistan's seat at the United Nations, with the Taliban taking office.
Last week, Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi called for a speech at a gathering of world leaders at the United Nations, and nominated Soheil Shahin, spokesman for the Taliban's political office in Qatar, as Afghanistan's representative to the organization. The Taliban government has not been allowed to speak at the rallies.
