In a letter to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, a number of Democratic and Republican senators in the United States expressed concern about human rights abuses in Bahrain.
The letter, signed by Bernie Sanders, Shroud Brown, Jeffrey Merkel, Tommy Baldwin, Patrick Leahy, Ron Weiden and Marco Rubio, called on the State Department to put pressure on Provide the Bahraini regime for the release of political prisoners in the country.
On February 14, 2011, the Bahraini people began a revolution against the sovereignty of the country. The revolution was met with severe repression by Al-Khalifa and the help of Saudi government officials, and hundreds of Bahrainis, including the leaders of the revolution, were imprisoned. However, these repressions did not end the protests of the Bahraini people, and the demonstrations and protests continue in the shadow of the severe repression against the policies of Al-Khalifa.
