Friday, 24 September 2021 (YJC)_ Iran's ambassador to the IAEA said that International Atomic Energy Agency should have timely access to nuclear fuel used for Australia's submarines envisioned in the AUKUS deal.
In a message on his Twitter account regarding the Aukus pact Iran's Permanent Envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Kazem Gharibabadi said that International Atomic Energy Agency should have timely access to nuclear fuel used for Australia's submarines envisioned in the AUKUS deal.
"For Australia, reaching safeguards arrangement with the Agency is of essence. The Agency should have access to the HEU [highly-enriched uranium] there at agreed and reasonable time and no excuse is accepted in this regard," Gharibabadi tweeted.”
He also wrote “Countries who blame Iran, politically ofcourse, for enriching uranium up to 60%, which is for humanitarian and peaceful purposes, now closed their eyes and decided to sell nuclear-powered submarines to Australia using above 90% HEU fuel.”
“For the US and UK, they should stop such a vulgar façade of double standard and hypocrisy and avoid compromising their obligations under Article III of the NPT under the pretext of the fabricated so-called "strategic concerns," he finally added.
The Aukus pact is a trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, which made France angry because according to which Australian scrapped a big atomic submarine deal with France.
