Tuesday, 21 September 2021 (YJC)_ During a meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated: "International organizations should be more active in fulfilling their responsibilities towards the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan."
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, met with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, this morning (Tuesday) after arriving in New York to attend the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of expanding consultations between the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and reviewed various aspects of relations between the two countries.
Amir-Abdollahian stressed the need to improve the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and said:
Unfortunately, we are witnessing the displacement of the Afghan people inside this country and also their influx to neighboring countries.
He added:
The Islamic Republic of Iran has hosted four million Afghan brothers and sisters for four decades, and has tried to be a good host all these years, despite sanctions and economic pressure and the recent Corona epidemic. But international organizations need to be more active in their responsibilities to the humanitarian situation in the country to prevent more of Afghanistan's noble people from being displaced.
