Supreme Leader Calls to Support the Athletes Refraining from Recognition of Zionist Regime

Saturday, 18 September 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian Supreme Leader urged Iranian foreign and sports ministries to support every athlete who refrain from recognizing the Zionist regime.

Supreme Leader Calls to Support the Athletes Refraining from Recognition of Zionist RegimeAddressing the medal winners from among the Iran's participants at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei urged Iranian foreign and sports ministries as well as the judiciary to support every athlete who refrain from recognizing the Zionist regime.

“Refraining from recognition of the criminal Zionist regime in sports fields is an important issue,” Ayatollah Khamenei said while adding that “The illegitimate Zionist regime is trying to gain legitimacy by participating in international sports arenas, but respected sports officials and athletes should not be passive in this area at all."

He went on to refer to the reciprocal actions of the Zionist regime to deprive the athletes of the competitions and said “This issue should be addressed legally by the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the legal systems, the athletes of the country and even the Muslim athletes of other countries should be respected and supported.”

“Iranian women athletes in Olympic and Paralympic competitions proved that the Islamic hijab does not prevent them to be successful in the field of sports,” Supreme leader said while noting that “The possibility of accomplishing unimaginable deeds and conveying the message of endurance are among the messages of the championship of the proud athletes of Iran in the international arenas.

“Iranian women athletes proved that the Islamic hijab does could not be a hurdle for through the path of success in the field of sports, as they have also proved in the fields of politics, science and management,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the championship of Iranian athletes despite some restrictions, and said “Strong determination is manifested through these championships, this determination exists not only in sports but also in the fields of science, technology, art and literature.”

The Iranian sixty-two member Paralympics team ended its work in Tokyo 2020 with 12 gold, 11 silver, and one bronze medals, ranking the 12th in the world.

With seven medals (3 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals), Iran's Olympics team became 27th in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
