Thursday, 16 September 2021 (YJC)_ Iran's ambassador at the UN Office in Geneva said the US administration is continuing its oppressive sanctioning policy against the developing countries.

Iranian Envoy US Continuing Oppressive Sanctioning Policy against Developing CountriesDuring his remarks in the second of the 48th regular session of the Human Rights Council, Iran's ambassador and Permanent Representative at the UN Office in Geneva Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh said the US administration is continuing its oppressive sanctioning policy against the developing countries.

“The US administration is committing blatant human rights violations in the countries that are under sanctions,” he said while adding that “The responsibility of governments to protect the human rights of their own people is clear, but human rights mechanisms should not be prevented from addressing blatant human rights violations in one country due to the illegal actions of other governments.”

Elsewhere in his remarks he pointed out the situations in Afghanistan and said “It is the result of 20-year of US occupation and its military intervention.”

“The formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan is what Iran desires,” he said while noting that this government should represent the people and the country's ethnic and religious diversity.

According to Hamaneh “The human rights of all Afghans should be respected through a peace process led by Afghans and controlled by Afghans.’

The 48th regular session of the Human Rights Council began on Monday and will continue for a few weeks.
