Tuesday, 7 September 2021 (YJC)_ White House Press Secretary said the US administration is not in a rush to recognize the new Afghan government led by the Taliban.

White House: No need to rush Taliban gov't recognitionWhite House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated on Tuesday the United States is not in a rush to recognize the new Afghan government led by the Taliban.

Speaking before the president's departure for New Jersey and New York, where he will deliver a speech on the effects of Hurricane Ida, Psaki said Biden still receives regular daily updates on the situation in Afghanistan from his National Security team. She stressed that "the world will be watching, the US included," on how the Taliban handle the crisis, particularly allowing people to leave and matters of human rights, before deciding on its future steps.

Psaki went on to confirm Biden is working on the speech he will make on the 20th anniversary of the September 11 (9/11) attacks, which triggered the US's invasion of Afghanistan, but did not give any more details on an official commemoration.
