US Secretary of Defense: ‌ We hope that diplomacy will help Iran's nuclear programSecretary of State Anthony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin attended a joint news conference in Doha this afternoon (Wednesday) with their Qatari counterparts.

The US Secretary of State said:
We thank Qatar for their efforts in Afghanistan and we will not forget their efforts to facilitate the evacuation of tens of thousands of people. The transfer of our embassy from Kabul to Doha is not accidental. Qatar was involved in the negotiations until we reached the end of the war.

Anthony Blinken added:
We contacted the Taliban and they agreed to allow those who had permission to travel. We will continue to work closely with Qatar in all areas. Our relationship with Doha is strong and we support the Al-Ala agreement on convergence between our partners.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, who was present at the conference, said:
We carried out the largest evacuation operation in our history and we would not have achieved such a thing without Qatar. We hope that diplomacy will help to stop the conflicts in the region, including in connection with the Iranian case.
