Nasri Khoury, secretary general of the Lebanese-Syrian Supreme Council, stressed the importance of Damascus accepting Beirut's request to transfer Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity.
Khoury told Al-Ahd News Agency that the move was in line with the Syrian government's desire to establish strong ties with Lebanon.
He expressed hope that Lebanese politicians would conclude that their country's highest interests depend on ongoing coordination and consultation with the Syrian government, at least on economic issues.
The Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Lebanon and Syria stated that the productive power of Syria is in the interest of Lebanon, and this requires cooperation and convergence between the two countries; A move that will reduce crises from US sanctions.
"Syria always behaves like a government that knows its own interests and the interests of other countries," Khoury said. It was therefore not surprising that he agreed to Lebanon's request.
In the end, he expressed hope that the agreement on the transfer of Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity to Lebanon through Syria would be re-implemented and would be a prelude to new agreements between Lebanon and Syria.
