Coinciding with reports of the situation in Panjshir, the only province outside of Taliban control in Afghanistan, a Russian media outlet reported heavy Taliban casualties.
Russia's Tass news agency quoted a "source close to the Resistance Front" (against the Taliban) as saying that more than 300 Taliban had been killed in clashes with the Resistance Front in Panjshir province.
The source said: Clashes that erupted yesterday evening after the Taliban tried to infiltrate Panjshir province, led to the elimination of more than 300 militants. Dozens of extremists (Taliban forces) were severely wounded or captured.
The source, whose name and identity were not mentioned by the Tass news agency, added: Currently, hostilities continue at the entrances of the region (Panjshir province). The Taliban were unable to break through the defensive line and they must now retreat.
