Monday, 30 August 2021 (YJC)_ Syrian ministers met with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs in Damascus to demand the lifting of sanctions against Syria.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Sunday (yesterday), the first destination of his regional tour.
According to the official Syrian news agency SANA, Griffiths met with a number of Syrian officials, including Faisal al-Maqdad, Hussein al-Makhlouf, the minister of local administration and the environment, Darem Taba, the minister of education, and Denzar Hussein al-Ghobash, the minister of health. Fadi Al-Khalil, Chief of Staff for International Planning and Cooperation, met with Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Hussein Qatna and Minister of Social Affairs Mohammad Saifuddin.
Griffiths said: The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the needs of various sectors, including health, education, basic services and reconstruction, in order to have a clear vision of the possibilities and cooperation for the future of the Syrian people and the current challenges.
During the meetings, the Syrian ministers also called for the lifting of sanctions against the Syrian government and the provision of essential humanitarian needs.
