The French army minister announced on Saturday morning that the country had suspended its exit from Kabul airport due to lack of security.
Reuters quoted French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian as saying: "We will talk to the Taliban to issue an exit permit for those who want to leave Afghanistan after the August 31 coup."
Le Drian added that staff from the French embassy in Kabul are currently in the UAE.
