Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein commented on the Baghdad summit in an interview with Russia Today.
Regarding the non-invitation of Syria to the summit, the Iraqi Foreign Minister stressed: "The Syrian brothers understand our position not to invite Damascus to this summit to resolve differences." He added that the purpose of the Baghdad summit is to reduce tensions in the region and reduce tensions inside Iraq.
"The Iraqi government expects the heads of state, prime ministers and foreign ministers to attend the Baghdad summit next Saturday," Hussein said.
"The purpose of the Baghdad meeting is to reduce tensions in the region, and we played a role in achieving bilateral meetings between the Saudi and Iranian delegations," he said.
On the situation of US troops in Iraq, Hussein said that the number of troops before the Baghdad-Washington strategic talks was 5,000 and that Iraq wanted their presence in the country to end by the end of this year.
