Monday, 23 August 2021 (YJC)_ The Palestinian Interior Ministry announced in the Gaza Strip that Egyptian officials had informed them that today (Monday) they would temporarily block the Rafah overpass in the southern Gaza Strip from both sides.
"We have been informed by the Egyptian authorities that the Rafah crossing will be closed today in both directions," Iyad al-Bazm, a spokesman for the Palestinian Authority's interior ministry in the Gaza Strip, was quoted as saying by the Anatolian news agency.
Al-Bazm did not provide any other details in its statement about the reason for Egypt's action and whether the holiday will be for one day or more.
In fact, this is the first closure of the Rafah crossing in recent months, apart from the official holidays.
Cairo has not yet responded.
