Monday, 15 August 2021 (YJC)_ Following the recent developments in Afghanistan, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said that he would hold an extraordinary meeting with the EU foreign ministers to assess the current situation in Afghanistan.
AFP reported on a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Afghanistan on Tuesday.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell also tweeted that following recent developments in Afghanistan and after close contacts with partners in recent days and hours, he had decided to hold an extraordinary meeting of EU foreign ministers in the form of a video conference.
In another tweet, he wrote: Afghanistan is at a crossroads. Citizens' security and international security are at stake.
Borrell had previously tweeted: "Human life must be protected and security and civil order restored." Afghans deserve a life of security and dignity. The international community calls on all parties to facilitate the safe exit of foreign nationals and Afghans wishing to leave their country.
