During a visit to Damascus, Falih al-Fayyadh, head of the Iraqi Al-Hashd al-Shabi organization, met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Al-Mayadin quoted sources as saying that al-Fayyadh presented Iraqi President Bashar al-Assad with an invitation to attend a summit of Iraq's neighbors in Baghdad.
In late August, Baghdad is scheduled to hold a summit for the first time since 1990 with the participation of nearly 10 Arab, regional and European countries, including Iraq's five neighbors: Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Jordan.
So far, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt have been invited to attend the summit, and French President Emmanuel Macron has announced his readiness to attend.
