Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist Movement in Iraq, tweeted: "The attempt to demonstrate in Al-Anbar province by some ignorant people is an attempt to create a sectarian sedition that is being used by some corrupt politicians." The government must take over and put an end to the short-sightedness of some followers of the parties calling for the October protests.
The October Demonstrations are demonstrations that took place in early October 2019 in Baghdad and some southern Iraqi provinces to protest the deteriorating living conditions, the economy, unemployment and corruption.
Muqtada al-Sadr said: "Some corrupt people use the release and harassment of people and obedience from abroad to support these demands for demonstrations."
Dozens of Iraqi protesters from various provinces named as "Iraqi freedmen" tried to enter Anbar province on Friday, but residents and security officials opposed the move.
