UN human rights specialists said countries must cease sales of surveillance technology until rules can be put in place to assure human rights are not violated, the Associated Press reported on Thursday.
This comes a month after reports that Israeli cyber company NSO Group sold spyware to autocratic governments which was subsequently used to conduct surveillance on political dissidents, journalists, and other private citizens.
