A spokesman for the Taliban movement's political bureau told Al-Jazeera that the Afghan government had violated its promises and commitments to attack our forces during Eid.
"It was the Kabul government that started declaring war on our forces," he said. We are committed to the path of negotiation and we do not want this negotiation to collapse.
A spokesman for the Taliban's political bureau also said: "We call on the international community to properly assess the reality."
"We have already agreed on a mechanism to facilitate negotiations instead of mediation," he added. It was the government that rejected the principle of mediation, not the Taliban.
