Tensions again on the Korean peninsula; North Korea did not answer the phoneSouth Korea's Yonhap news agency reported that Pyongyang did not respond to the daily call between the two Koreas via the military line today (Tuesday).

South Korea's call from its northern neighbor went unanswered at 4pm (local time) today.

Earlier, after Washington and Seoul ignored Pyongyang's warnings that they would hold their annual joint military exercise, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's sister warned that South Korea and the United States would face a more serious security threat.

North Korea called the exercise a "hostile" move and warned that it would damage the two Koreas' talks. However, despite Seoul's claims of trying to improve relations with Pyongyang, South Korea and the United States began basic training today for larger, simulated computer drills scheduled for next week.

"These exercises are an unpleasant and self-destructive act that threatens the people of North Korea and increases tensions on the Korean Peninsula," Kim Yo-jung said in a statement issued by the North Korean state news agency.
