Former United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has sharply criticized the Biden administration's immigration policy in an interview with the Brit Bart News website.
He said the White House had failed to deal with the border crisis and now plans to increase the number of illegal immigrants eligible to stay in the United States by 600 percent compared to the ceiling set by Donald Trump in 2020.
The former top US diplomat claimed that this issue goes beyond immigration policy and directly affects US security.
"This is a national security problem, just as people crossing our borders and entering here illegally are a national security problem," Pompeo said.
"America has always been a generous place," he said. Under our asylum laws, we welcome those who have real problems and want to come to the United States and are in danger. But we need to secure the United States and its borders and make sure we know who is crossing the border.
Pompeo called the number of people entering the United States legally and illegally "astonishing" and stressed that these people were not properly investigated for posing a threat to Americans.
