An Indian Army military helicopter crashed into a lake behind the Ranjit Sagar Dam in Punjab province on Tuesday morning as it flew at its usual low altitude sorties.
The Indian Army confirmed the crash in a statement, saying the helicopter of the 254th Airborne Squadron, which had taken off from Mamun Kant in Patankot, Punjab, while flying low over the Ranjit Sagar Dam, crashed. It was an accident.
A team of National Disaster Management Forces has been sent to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations. Preliminary estimates from the crash site indicate that both the pilot and co-pilot survived the crash.
