"There is no evidence of wrongdoing here, and I protest not only on behalf of my client but on behalf of all future presidents of the United States against the release of these tax returns," said Ronald Fishti, a lawyer for former US President Donald Trump.
Acting Deputy Attorney General Dawn Johnson said in a statement Friday that the Treasury Department should file Trump's tax returns with the House Finance Committee, the House of Commons' main tax committee.
He added that the House Finance Committee has asked for Trump's personal tax returns and the tax returns of eight Trump-related businesses in the past six years.
