UK foreign minister claims Iran attacked tanker; Tehran deniesThe United Kingdom has claimed that Iran carried out the drone attack that killed two aboard an oil tanker off Oman.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab claimed in a statement Sunday night: “We believe this attack was deliberate, targeted, and a clear violation of international law by Iran.”

Raab said one or more drones was used in the attack.

His comments come after Iran denied being involved earlier Sunday. Israel’s prime minister directly blamed Iran and made a veiled threat about retaliating.

Israel’s prime minister Sunday has similar claim and directly blamed Iran for a drone attack on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman that killed two people, making a veiled threat to retaliate as Tehran denied being involved in the assault.

The comments by Premier Naftali Bennett and Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh come after the strike Thursday night on the oil tanker Mercer Street.

Today, Saeed Khatibzadeh said the Iranian Foreign ministry rejects claims by Israel, which said that Tehran has attacked an Israeli ship near Oman, and called it a childish blame game.

“The illegitimate existence of Zionist regime should stop making such baseless allegations as that is not the first time that the regime raises such allegations.” He said while noting that “Such allegations are childish and within the framework of the rented and famous lobby of the Zionist regime.”

An oil tanker operated by an Israeli-owned company came under attack off the coast of Oman in the Arabian Sea, the British military said Friday, with the company later confirming the reports.
