Friday, 2 July 2021 (YJC) _ Iran's Permanent Representative at the UN Office criticized the assassination of Gen. Soleimani and described it as a clear example of state terrorism.
In his remarks at the 47th regular session of the Human Rights Council, Iran's ambassador and Permanent Representative at the UN Office in Geneva Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh criticized the assassination of Gen. Soleimani and described it as a clear example of state terrorism.
“Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani was a true defender of human rights and someone who opposed the occupation and ISIL terrorism,” Baghaei said while adding that “His assassination was brutal, arbitrary, unjust, and illegal act that threatened peace and security in the world.”
He went on to refer to the US administration's failure in holding accountable and bringing to justice the perpetrators behind the assassination and said “All the nations in the West Asia region including Iranian people will remember Martyr Soleimani as a symbolic soldier.”
Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani was assassinated in a US drone strike on Baghdad International Airport in Iraq on January 3, 2020. The airstrike also martyred Deputy Commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. The two were martyred in an American airstrike that targeted their vehicle on the road to the airport.
