Several people were injured, some fatally, after an armed person opened fire at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) facility in San Jose, California on Wednesday, the police said in a statement.
"I can confirm with you right now that we do have multiple victims, and we have multiple casualties at this point. I can’t confirm the exact number of injuries and fatalities, but I will tell you that there are multiple injuries and multiple fatalities in this case", Deputy Russell Davis said.
The shooter is also among those dead. Some victims of the shooting are currently receiving treatment, Davis added.
San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said on Twitter that the situation is still being assessed, adding that additional information will be provided shortly.
According to the Santa Clara County sheriff's spokesman, the suspect is now dead. The police previously said on Twitter that the shooter was down, but did not elaborate further.
