Tehran, YJC. Secretary General of the Democracy Party has said that although he supports relationship with the US, he acknowledges the fact that the Supreme Leader must have the final word.
Mostafa Kavakebian
who was announcing his candidacy in a press conference provided comments on his
policy for his would-be administration and said "The Constitution and the Supreme
Leader would have the final word in my administration.”
Kavakebian also pointed to his support for relationship with the US and said "The
key to the sanctions is in US spite. If we do not improve relations with the US
we would not be able to eliminate sanctions.”
He also added "I
believe that current situations are not fit for opening relations with the US,
and that a thorough planning is needed for that. This is testified by me being
one of Ahmadinejad’s first critics when he introduced relations with the US.”
Secretary General of
the Democracy Party further said that the Supreme Leader has the final word on Iran-US
relations and that based on article 176 of the Constitution the Leader is the
one to decide on the matter.
Kavakebian also pointed to the need for launching private TV channels and said "TV
and radio must not be expressly confined to the state media. While there are
private TV channels in neighbor countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, and
Qatar with much lower democratic factors, we can do the same with governmental decree
and Expediency Council regulation.”
