Saturday, 22 May 2021 (YJC) _ The Iranian Health Ministry spox announced that the number of deaths from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran tops 78,300.
The Iranian Health Ministry spokesperson announced on Saturday that 8,005 new COVID-19 infections have been detected across the country in the past 24 hours.
“8,005 COVID-19 infections and 187 deaths due to the disease in the past 24 hours” the spox said while adding that “This brings the total number of cases to more than 2,823,887.”
The spokesperson went on to say that “187 COVID patients have lost their lives in the past 24 hours that bring the total death toll to 78,381.”
“4,945 people are being treated in ICUs in hospitals across the country, while 2,319,746 have already gained recovery,” ministry added.
“As many as 2,478,936 have received the first doses of the anti-coronavirus vaccine as of today, and 18,810,335 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out across the country,” she added.
According to the latest figures, more than 166,568,309 people have so far been infected with the novel coronavirus globally, with the deaths standing at 3,460,014 and recoveries amounting to 147,382,269.
