Iranian FM takes part in OIC emergency meetingIranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif participated in the virtual emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Sunday and urged the need for devising an institutionalized legal and political campaign against Zionist regime.

This meeting addressed continuing Israeli regime's attacks in the Palestinian territories and Zarif discussed the latest atrocities of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people.

He started his speech by expressing his gratitude to OIC for organizing this meeting and said “Innocent men, women and children are being massacred by the deadliest and most sophisticated weapons. We are facing blatant and systematic violations of human rights, humanitarian law and international law.”

He went on to say that the massacre of Palestinian children follows the purported normalization and added that “This criminal and genocidal regime has once again proven that friendly gestures only aggravate its atrocities.”

Elsewhere in his remarks he pointed out the aim of the Israel regime as “to divide Muslims and isolate the people of Palestine” and said “Make no mistake: Israel only understands the language of resistance and the people of Palestine are fully entitled to the right to defend themselves and to defy the bullying of this racist regime.”

He, moreover, highlighted the fact that “Once again such barbaric acts have proven that the only peaceful path to peace in Palestine is the holding of a referendum among all residents of Palestine.”

“We should keep working actively in the UN to urgently convene an emergency session of the General Assembly to address this issue,” Zarif said while pointing the fact that “It must not be forgotten that Palestine is not only an Arab or Islamic issue, but also an international dilemma.”

Iranian FM also pointed the abhorrent approach of some Western governments in equating victims and said “An institutionalized legal and political campaign against this apartheid Zionist regime is a must. A professional international watchdog should be established to monitor and report on the crimes perpetrated against Palestinian people.”

On Sunday morning Zarif arrived in Rome to meet with Italian and Vatican officials to discuss the expansion of bilateral relations.

Previously, he has traveled to Spain to meet with the country's foreign and industry ministers.
