Tehran,YJC. Iran’s Supreme Leader addressed the country’s military leaders on Wednesday on the occasion of the Sacred Defense Week.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated "The experience of 8 years of Sacred Defense testified the point that in spite of all limitations and pressures; as well as lack of financial credits and numerous problems, one is able to stand against bullying and the world powers’ unjust expectations with grim determination and reliance on God.”

The Leader noted that certain countries from the West and East along with their lackeys in the region formed a large military axis against the Islamic Republic during Iraq’s imposed war in the 1980s.

"Their coalition showcased the military possibilities of the time,” he pointed out.

"This broad coalition sought to weaken, undermine and disgrace the Islamic establishment, put it in numerous troubles and ultimately lay the groundwork for the collapse of the Islamic Republic”

"But,” ayatollah Khamenei noted, "the Islamic establishment and the Iranian nation withstood this front and emerged victorious despite the lack of facilities and equipment and the existence of problems at that time,”

The 1980-1988 Iraqi war on Iran is dubbed as Sacred Defense in Iran. The Sacred Defense Week held each year marks the start of the war and is a commemoration of the country’s national valor to ward off a global coalition in those days.
