Thursday, 01 April 2021_More than 100 fully vaccinated people in the US state of Washington have contracted COVID-19 more than two weeks after receiving the disease’s vaccine, officials say.

Over 100 vaccinated people test positive for COVID-19 in WashingtonThe Washington State Department of Health reported on Wednesday that it has found 102 breakthrough cases out of the 1.2 million people who are fully vaccinated since Feb. 1.

According to the department, at least eight people out of the breakthrough cases have been hospitalized and two of them have died. It didn't elaborate on the brand of the vaccines these patients have recieved.

"Finding evidence of vaccine breakthrough cases reminds us that, even if you have been vaccinated, you still need to wear a mask, practice socially distancing, and wash your hands to prevent spreading COVID-19 to others who have not been vaccinated," Dr. Umair Shah, Washington state's secretary of health, said in a statement Tuesday.

The report by the Washington State Department of Health comes on the day that the Virginia officials announced a severe breakthrough case four days after receiving the Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose vaccine.

Over the past weeks, many experts have raised concern about efficiency of the three brands of vaccines – Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson -  that have been approved by the FDA.

Reports of death after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine developed by US firm Pfizer and German BioNTech also grabbed media attention after at least 33 people in Norway died after taking the first dose of the vaccine in January.

However, major American and British media apparently reached a consensus to downplay the deaths.
