India, the world’s second most populous nation and a diverse country is still struggling to feed millions as hunger continues to be a challenging task for successive governments. For those having tough times to feed themselves growth and development is just for a TV and a newspaper since their lives have not changed.
Based on ‘The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, 2020 report, there are some 189 million undernourished people in India which accounts to about a 14 percent of country’s overall population which includes women and children putting the future generation of the country at huge stake. On the 2020 global hunger index India ranks 94th out of the 107 countries with a score of 27.2 with serious levels of hunger. Experts say government programs and schemes need a vigorous implementation.
