Tuesday, 09 March 2021_The Union of Palestinian Women held a protest rally in front of Red Cross in the Gaza Strip to show solidarity with Palestinian detainees especially women languishing in Israeli jails with no charge. The protest was part of events in the enclave to mark the International Women’s Day.
The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) said in a statement that thirty-five female Palestinian prisoners are currently behind Israeli bars, noting that eleven of the prisoners are mothers.
The statement said 26 of the female prisoners had been sentenced to varying prison terms, the longest belonging to two prisoners, Shurooq Dwayyat and Shatila Abu Ayyad, who are each serving a jail sentence of 16 years.

Statistics show that the number of Palestinian prisoners at Israeli jails reached some 5000 prisoners including administrative detainees and women and children.
People here say as the world is marking the International Women’s’ Day, Palestinian women are suffering from aggression either in Israeli jails or under suffocating siege or threats by Israel on the impoverished enclave.
