Almost all of the countries around the world recognize China's sovereignty over Taiwan and are not permitted to have formal relations with the self-ruled island.
Speaking at the opening of the annual meeting of China’s parliament, with 3,000 delegates at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, Li asserted that under the “One China” policy, Taiwan is a part of China, and his country “resolutely deter[s] any separatist activity seeking Taiwan independence”
Furthermore, emphasizing on China’s stance over Taiwan’s separatist motivations, the premier added that his country is committed “to promoting the peaceful growth of relations across the Taiwan Strait and China’s reunification”.
Meanwhile, ignoring China's sovereignty over Taiwan, the US has removed some of the restrictions on official contacts with Taiwan and has stepped up arms and military support for Taiwan in recent years.
