Tehran, YJC. Iranian MP says the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has proved serious in coping with the West’s unfavorable policies.

Committee Qolamali Mansouri Arani said "The SCO leaders summit which was
convened last week showed a devout determination by the members to cope with
the West’s actions.”
Due to Tehran’s important role in international equations,
the SCO asked for a more active role by Iran. Iran’s membership in regional and
ultra-regional deals can lead to a boost in Iran’s power to negotiate with
Western countries, he noted.
Arani said "The world’s political affairs are so entangled
that one cannot confront Western countries by one self. Integrity on positions
and policies in relation to countries that take parallel courses can force
Western countries to back down.”
He stated "Western countries always face all issues in a
unified way and apply multi-lateral sanctions. The SCO can act as a strategic
union to nullify Western sanctions in a way.”
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said on September 13 after
his attendance to the summit that the member states of the SCO seek to
strengthen all-out relations with the Islamic Republic.
The SCO is an intergovernmental organization that was
founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Iran, along with four other countries,
holds observer status at the organization.
