Friday, 19 February 2021 (YJC)_ In a phone talk with President of the European Council, Iranian President said JCPOA is an important achievement for multilateral diplomacy.
In his remarks in a phone talk with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani said JCPOA is an important achievement for multilateral diplomacy.
“EU must play an appropriate role in countering US unilateralism” Rouhani said while adding that “We are ready to work with the European Union to combat terrorism and extremism, and we welcome regional interaction and cooperation.”
Elsewhere in his remarks Rouhani expressed his concern over the resurgence of ISIL in the region after the martyrdom of Lt. Gen. Soleimani, and said “The presence of foreign forces in the region has increased tensions and stressed the need for ensuring security, peace, and stability in the region.”
He went on and put emphasize on the importance of developing relations the European Union, especially in the trade and economic fields, and said “Given the recent developments in the international arena and the creation of new conditions for the development of cooperation between countries, it is necessary to try to revive the level of Iran-EU relations.”
Rouhani also highlighted some points about current coronavirus pandemic and said “Solving this problem requires a comprehensive and global effort,” while adding that “sharing experience and success in this field is the way different countries can contribute to the issue.”
In his turn Michel referred to Europe's support of the JCPOA after the US unilateral withdrawal and stressed the need to maintain the deal as an international agreement and its full implementation by all parties.
He also wrote on his twitter account I spoke with President @HassanRouhani, The EU supports the full implementation of the #JCPOA. Preserving a space for diplomacy, underpinned by positive steps, is crucial at this stage.”
