TEHRAN, YJC. Iranˈs President Hassan Rouhani discussed issues of mutual interests in a meeting here with the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Dmitry Fyodorovich Mezentsev.
The meeting was held at President Rouhani's residence and
the two discussed major regional and international developments, according to IRNA.
Later in the day, President Rouhani is to hold separate
meeting with his counterpart from Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, Indian Minister of
External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and Iranians residing in Tajikistan.
The Iranian President arrived in Tajikistan on Wednesday to
attend the 14th summit meeting of the SCO.
He is in Tajikistan on the second leg of his five-day
regional tour which had earlier taken him to Kazakhstan, for the first time
since he took office in August 2013.
President Rouhani is accompanied by a high-ranking political
and economic delegation including several cabinet members.
On the sidelines of the SCO summit, President Rouhani is to
hold separate meetings with leaders of the member states.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization or SCO is a Eurasian
inter-governmental organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the
leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The Organization has currently six full members. Iran,
Mongolia, Pakistan, and India are observer states and SCO’s dialogue partners
include Belarus, Sri Lanka, and Turkey.
