The new American leader made the comments in an interview with CNN as the Democratic majority Senate was preparing to hold Trump accountable for inciting a violent insurrection.
“I think it has to happen,” the former Vice President said of the impeachment trial, set to begin Feb. 8. "The Senate has changed since I was there, but it hasn't changed that much.”
Trump marked a new first in US history by becoming the only president that has ever been impeached twice.
The former president cheered his supporters to storm the Capitol on Jan. 6 as the lawmakers were holding a session to certify Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
American authorities have also vowed to arrest those who were behind the breach of the Capitol, which left several people dead.
