Tehran, YJC. Senior Iranian politician says the U.K. intends to continue its 19th century sway over ME politics.
Supreme Leader Advisor and Expediency Discernment Council member
Ali Akbar Velayati spoke to Nasim on Wednesday to give his views on the latest
diplomatic developments between Iran and the U.K.
He pointed to a recent statement by British MPs that once
the British Embassy in Tehran is opened, it would support certain political
currents and added "Britain still lives in dreams, in the 19th
century, to put it better. Some of the country’s underdeveloped statesmen think
that things are like the past when every country could do anything it wanted.”
The U.K. is too week a country to be able to do anything
against the Islamic Republic and its stability, Velayati asserted.
They have said so to attract the public, which is a domestic
tactic, he noted. "They have suffered so often for their illusions of Iran so
far. The seditious plans that we witness in the region are on one side
connected to the U.K., in which they all have failed. And the main reason for
the U.K. and its allies’ defeat in the region has been Iran’s influence.”
"Iran is so powerful
that besides defending the country and its interests, it has also succeeded in
helping its regional friends,” the Supreme Leader added. "Al this is in contrast
to what the British statesmen have in mind.”
