Tehran,YJC. Iraqi religious-political leader says his Sadrist Movement is against US intervention in the country.
Muqtada al-Sadr, who is one of the main religious figures of
Iraq, has said that he is against US intervention in his country.
Sadr is politically influential especially through his
Sadrist Movement.
Speaking in interview with Sky News Arabia he said that the
US is an occupying country and it must not interfere with the affairs of Iraq.
He noted that he is not opposed to help from countries that
are friends with Iraq, provided that the Iraqi government deems it right.
Although politically influential, Sadr does not hold any
official position in the government of Iraq.
On February 18, 2014 he withdrew from politics and
dismantled his influential political movement in a move that stunned his
followers and handed a pre-election boost to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
