Tehran, YJC. Professor says humanities does not contribute to wealth, but is concerned with the quality of life.
Stuart Sim, professor at Northumbria University in
Newcastle, UK in interview with Mehr News Agency said "Humanities stresses an
understanding of the current era. In fact, the humanities are the generators of
values. It fights consumerism and the worship of wealth.”
"It is a pity that in the West, political parties propagate
consumerism. Political parties also maintain that accumulating wealth is man’s
highest goal,” he said.
Sim added "What humanities offer is that there are higher
goals to life than these. Man is a creature that can improve its abilities
regarding human relationships.”
He further stated "Life without art, for example, will be of
much lower quality. The study of humanities is not just about fun, it rather
makes us think about what is happening in the world.”
