The Hussein Association has for 40 years organized Ashura ceremonies, in order to help carry on the message of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammed, who was martyred in 680 AD in Karbala, Iraq.
Also set up this year, is a museum, which showcases artworks and a depiction of the story of the events which led to the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, as well as showing the importance of the Imam Hussein’s sacrifice in Islamic history.
For Muslims all over the world, congregating during the Covid-19 Pandemic has been a struggle with many events having been cancelled. However regardless of what measures have to be taken, Muslims in London have proven prepared to follow the guidelines in order to spread the message of peace that Imam Hussein stood for.
Despite the covid-19 restrictions that have been imposed, thousands of people have been able to appear here today in congregation, following social distancing rules and making sure they were all safe, whilst mourning the death of Imam Hussein.
